Meet the Doctors
Richard Silver, O.D., P.C.
Dr. Richard Silver is a Cum Laude graduate of Pennsylvania State University, and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Dr. Silver specializes in eye care and contact lenses for children and adults, including prosthetic lenses for those who have lost or damaged their eyes. Dr. Silver has written numerous articles on eye care and contact lenses and is a clinical investigator for several contact lens companies. He serves as an expert witness for medical-legal issues related to contact lens designs. He is a consultant to the major film studios and production companies. His special effect contact lens work has been featured on television shows "Extra" and "Entertainment Tonight", along with magazine publications "Time" and "People".
Randy Taketa, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. Randy Taketa received his doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry. He did his clinical externship at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Illinois. Dr. Taketa has been in local private practice for over 20 years, and practices primary care optometry with an emphasis in contact lenses. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, past president of the Los Angeles County Optometric Society, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
Jimmy R. Cheng, O.D.
Dr. Jimmy Cheng was born and raised in Los Angeles, receiving his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of California, Irvine. He then decided to leave the sunshine and moved to the gorgeous city of Boston, Massachusetts, where he graduated from the New England College of Optometry in 2005. His studies also took him to Wenzhou, China, where he continued to train with renowned ophthalmologists at the Wenzhou Medical College. Following another clinical externship at the VA Hospital in Fresno, California, Dr. Cheng returned to Boston where he was in private practice before eventually moving back home to Los Angeles in 2007. Dr. Cheng joined Drs. Silver and Taketa in 2008 and lives in West L.A. with his wife and 2 children.
Vasudha Bhutani, O.D.
Dr. Vasudha Bhutani was born and raised in India, and came to the United States at the age of seventeen. She received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and subsequently attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry to obtain her doctorate. After optometry school, Dr. Bhutani had the honor of gaining her clinical fellowship in Behavioral and Developmental Optometry under the guidance of internationally renowned Dr. Claude Valenti at the Optometric Vision Developmental Center in La Jolla, San Diego. Dr. Bhutani concentrates on primary vision care with an emphasis on pediatrics and specialized contact lenses, including Corneal Refractive Therapy, for improving vision through reshaping the cornea. In addition, Dr. Bhutani provides diagnosis and treatment of vision problems that can get in the way of reading and learning. Dr. Bhutani joined the team of Drs. Silver and Taketa in 2007.
Meet the Staff
Front Office
Sandi Avila
Sandi has been with Drs. Silver and Taketa for the past 23 years. She runs the front office and is the "go to" person. She has been an essential part of the practice. Sandi is a California native. In her free time she likes to enjoy spending time with her large family.
Kristy Soto
Kristy has been with the office for 20 years. She processes all patient insurance claims and helps backup the front desk. Kristy was born and raised in Los Angeles. She is a wife and mother of a beautiful daughter, Emma and a handsome son, Ernie.
Natalie Carrillo
Natalie is one of the newest members to the practice. As a receptionist in the front office, she is responsible for checking patients in and out, as well as scheduling appointments. Natalie was born and raised in Culver City, California. In her free time Natalie enjoys shopping, and spending time with her family and friends.
Ophthalmic Technicians
Tom Hirata
Tom has been the contact lens technician of the practice for the past 23 years. He is responsible for maintaining thousands of different diagnostic contact lenses and solutions. Tom places, checks in and validates all contact lens orders. He is also responsible for guiding patients to the exam room and performing all pre-exam tests. In his free time Tom enjoys cooking and baking for the office and playing his taiko drums.
Nelli Nikonova
Nelli is a certified contact lens technician. She has been working with Drs. Silver and Taketa since 1996. Her responsibilities include pre-testing patients, validating contact lens orders, and teaching patients how to properly insert and remove contact lenses. Nelli also takes excellent retinal photographs and corneal topographies. Outside of work, Nelli enjoys traveling with her family and training her parrot.
Opticians
Bobbie Sera
Bobbie is the office manager and has been with Drs. Silver and Taketa for the past 23 years. She has been an optician since the late 70's. She enjoys learning the latest technologies of frames and prescription lenses. Bobbie and Robert manage the entire inventory of frames and lenses for the optical department. They both make sure the office carries the best quality and latest trends in eyewear.
Robert Edelberg
Robert has a degree in optics and has been in the optical industry for over 30 years - eleven of those with Drs. Silver and Taketa. Robert enjoys selling unusual and unique eyeglass frames, and feels people should have fun with their eyewear. Glasses are the first thing people see when they look at you, so they better be nice. Robert looks forward to working with you.
Adan Garcia
Adan joined the practice as an optician in training and 1.5 years later is a full time optician hoping to get his certified license this coming year. His interests are diverse and many - a licensed massage therapist since 1996 to screen credit stunt work in a martial arts movie, Adan is here for all of your optical needs.
